Marco Simone Golf & Country Club is the official hosting venue of the 2023 Ryder Cup. For the first time in history, Italy will host the 44th edition of the third most significant sport event in the world after the Olympic Games and the World Cup. The Italian edition of the Europe-USA super challenge will take place from September 29th to October 1st. Ryder Cup allows Italian golf to look ahead in time, enabling Marco Simone Golf & Country Club to become an innovative and advanced international reference point, rich in values and linked to sustainability.
THE RYDER CUP
The Ryder Cup is the most important international golf event. Held in the USA for the first time in 1927, it was named after the British businessman Samuel Ryder, who donated the trophy.
The Ryder Cup sees the United States and Europe face off in the only sporting event in which the Old Continent competes as a team. It is played every two years, alternating between Europe and America.
The Ryder Cup takes place over six days, including three practice days and three game days, during which the top 12 European golfers and the top 12 Americans compete for the prestigious trophy. The widespread diffusion of golf around the world and the presence of the strongest European golfers ensures that the Ryder Cup is a unique event. The last edition of the Ryder Cup played in France in 2018, with over 270,000 spectators at Le Golf National, reached over 600 million homes with more than 160 countries tuning in to watch the events live on television. The Ryder Cup is thus the ideal tool for promoting a sport that boasts 65 million players worldwide, rendering it the most practised individual discipline.
The 2023 Ryder Cup will take place at Marco Simone Golf & Country Club from September, 29th to October, 2nd. The countdown has already started and we are ready to host the most important golf event. Luke Donald will be the 2023 European Captain and Zach Johnson will be the 2023 American Captain.

PLAYING THE FUTURE
Located on the outskirts of Rome, the layout of Marco Simone was rerouted not only to provide numerous risk and reward opportunities for the world’s leading players, but also to maximize the natural rolling countryside terrain. Spectators will have unrivalled vantage points of the on-course action as well as distant views of the famous Eternal City, including spectacular views of St Peter’s Basilica and of the Castle of Marco Simone which together will provide the backdrop to golf’s greatest team contest. The redesign of Marco Simone Golf and Country Club, led by European Golf Design in cooperation with Tom Fazio II, began in August 2018, with the back nine completed and reopened in October 2020 followed by the full 18 holes at the start of March. In the meanwhile, Marco Simone Golf & Country Club hosted three Italian Opens in 2021, 2022 and 2023 and it’s ready for the most exciting golf event.

“Hosting the 2023 Ryder Cup for us is not only a dream come true, but the beginning of a new journey. Our motto is ‘playing the future’ and we are committed to growing the next generation of golfers. We are now ready to host champions and amateurs from all around the world and we believe that the Ryder Cup is important for Marco Simone and Italian golf at a global level.”
Lavinia Biagiotti Cigna
“Fazio golf design has a deep affection for our Italian heritage and has been so fortunate to work in Italy. We would be extremely excited to see Marco Simone Golf & Country Club host the 2023 Ryder Cup. It seems a good fit having one of the oldest sports being played around an ancient Roman castle”

THE ASSIGNMENT OF THE RYDER CUP
On 14th December 2015, Italy was awarded the right to host the 2022 Ryder Cup. Being awarded to Italy and Rome came about following a very strong candidacy, seeing the extraordinary support of the Government and CONI with President Giovanni Malagò, the Italian Golf Federation with President Franco Chimenti, Marco Simone Golf with President Laura Biagiotti and Vice President Lavinia Biagiotti Cigna, large business groups, sports champions and personalities, as well as an excellent operational task force. Marco Simone Golf & Country Club is an ambitious project created by entrepreneur designer Laura Biagiotti and her husband Gianni Cigna, who passed away in 1996 in his late 80s. The project was dedicated to transforming over 150 hectares of Roman countryside into 27 spectacular holes.
“I am proud and delighted—together with my daughter Lavinia—to have brought the Ryder Cup to Italy for the first time, being the third sporting event in the world and watched by over two billion viewers. This extraordinary opportunity has come about thanks to the immense commitment and vision of the President of the Italian Golf Federation Franco Chimenti and CONI President Giovanni Malagò,” declared Laura Biagiotti.
